Actually its my daughter. When she went in for her check up she told the doctor that she hadn't felt the baby move as much as the day before. So they did an ultrasound and told her that her placenta had separated a little. They decided to admit her and that she would have an induction. We also thought she was due Febuary 13 but now they told her that its actually Febuary 23 which is a month away. Is that considered a premie? Just a concerned grandma to be.

They started her induction a little before midnight last night. She has only dialated to two centemeters since then.

There is no one answer to this as there are too many variables involved. First, why are you being induced? Inductions are risky business and many times end up as a c-section with a baby who is not ready to be born yet. But that's a whole 'nother tangent. It depends on your body. If baby is ready to come, sometimes a bit of Pitocin is all it needs. If your body and your baby aren't ready for birth, you can take all the drugs in the world and it's just not gonna happen. Induction for something other than a true medical reason is just not a real good idea. Let your body do what it was made to do. Relax and just go with it.

I went in for induction at 6:30 a.m. They started pumping the meds around 7:30 and my son was born at 3 that afternoon. Good luck and relax, it's going to be intense!

The doctors seem to think it takes a while, for me it was 4 hours from the first contraction to the birth.

It depends on how fast your cervix dialates. I only dialated 2cm five hours after induction and I had to have a c section.

I guess it depends on the type of medication they'll use for that. I was given a small strip that was placed in my vagina and took me13 hrs to have my baby, but I was told if that medication didn't work for me in 13 hrs they woud use another that would go on my I.V. so it varies from person to person.

Thank you so much for these answers. I am the grandma just waiting as patiently as I can. I had my three sons all naturally so I knew nothing of the induction process. Thanks to all responders!
