im painting my 96 corsica i paid 650 for it and was missing half of the paint on the body i worked on it all summer stripping and priming it, then i found out how expensive acryillic paint is, my mechanic told me to use enamel instead as a cheap alternative. he has been doing body work for 20 years but i am still leary to commit to the idea... can you give me a hand in making my decision?

Enamel is more durable than acrylic paint and has better shine. I've applied acrylic before and it's always chalked, cracked and faded far easily than enamel. Plus acrylic does not get along well with enamel, resulting in paint peels and a waste of big bucks.

Enamel paint application is about the same as acrylic, except takes longer to dry. You would have to go easy on spraying new base coat of enamel paint to avoid paint runs than acrylic.

The downside of enamel is the orange peel (paint texture that looks like the skin of organge) and a lot of wet 1000 to 2000grits sandpapers, which in my opinion isn't all that bad.

I'd say get some roll-on or spray-on bedliner. You should be able to cover the whole thing with spray-can bedliner for 1-200 bucks at most.

It's a POS, a beater. Don't pour money into this car. I just like this idea because you can abuse the hell out of the car and not damage your paint. It would also look badass.
