Well I'm a taxi driver, there is no rule on how to handle it. I just make a judgment call on whether I can trust the person to come back the next day to get the money. If I don't trust them I tell them I have to take them to the police to give their details, funny enough they then "find" the money in another pocket or in the house - 100% of time!

If you forgot your wallet you may as well get a ride to get it and pay the cab driver at the same time. Not sure about where you live but I can't do anything without money so whats the point in getting dropped off if you're broke.

Depending on the situation if your willing to give the driver something of value to hold till you can pay...a driver might be open to that...but, most drivers would just say fine, call the dispatcher and have a cruiser sent to the location...at which time you would be arrested for a misdemeanor, evading a taxi fare..just like shop lifting...Good Luck.

I have heard some crap on here before, but Mr. Know it All tops the list of entering a contract and being arrested for not paying your cab fare LOL! If you forgot your wallet, I am pretty sure that cab companies can phone headquarters and send you a bill.

Cabman sez: negotiate with the cabbie; most are pretty reasonable. Don't run or dis the cabbie, that's like you not getting paid for an hour's work on your job. Never shoot a cabbie who's out there to serve the public and make a honest livin. CHEERS!

I've done both...or all three I guess. A couple of times I told the cabbie to drive slow so we could look for the address (fake of course, but close to home) then I jumped out and ran. Once, a cabbie did call the police on me, but I ran then too. I would think that you could have him/her drive you to wherever your wallet was and then pay. Most of the drivers are pretty cool though. I just pay now.

By entering the taxi you've entered in to a contract with the cab company. If you fail to pay they will call the police and have you arrested.
