Wow a lot of bad answers....worst one, this car never came with a 3800 v6 ever ever ever(in 94 was the last v6 and it was a 3100) These cars are notoriously hard to do because there is no radiator cap they have just a cap on the overflow bottle that is also the vent. This car maybe an early version that has a black metal pipe running across the front of the engine, on it there may be a tiny hex head which you need to loosen after the car is heated up until you hear hissing, do not take it all the way out though.
If its a later model then you must just let it run to fill up with fluid, you can (with a glove on) squeeze the radiator hose to try and get the air out.
If none of this helps then your ownly option is to replace the radiator which I just did on my 98 cavalier(same basic car) and it only cost about $50 for a radiator, it could also be the heater core...but thats less likely.

Leave the radiator cap off.. start it up and let it run.. watch the temp gage. it may go up to 3/4 hot or so before the thermostat opens. With the cap still off look to see if the coolant level drops (air getting out of the system) then add to full. Look for flow in the radiator. You should have flow after it warms up and all of the air is out. You can then put the cap on and keep an eye on the temp gage while letting it run for another 15 min or so.

I had a 98 Sunfire a couple of years ago and mine encountered the same problem. The mechanic said I had an air pocket in there and he had drained and refilled the radiator then pressed something under the hood and let it run for awhile then would rev the engine up again and let it run and after he was done I never had a problem.I tried almost everything you did before taking it to the mechanic. Go to the Mechanic.

seems like you have covered everything...except to replace the radiator cap. and also you must make sure that you have no air pockets in the cooling system...Also if the thermostat that you installed never opens up, then you will not have any circulation..Have you checked your temperature sending unit...is your guage or light working...also the thermostat you installed could be faulty...remove and put in a boiler on top of the stove and see if it opens up at the correct temperature...test by using a cooking thermometer

Sounds like a rust blockage. If I were you I would go to a junkyard and put in a "new" radiator. It's about the only option left.

3.8 liter I take it? aka 3800
There hard to "burp" the air out of, there is a screw down there to release the trapped air. Look in a Haynes or similar book at your local auto parts store, it will show you.
Don't worry it only gets better.
