Is it possible to keep just snails in an aquarium? I've kept them with guppies before, but never just by themselves.
Also, what should I feed them? I know they feed on algae, but it doesn't seem to grow very quickly in our 10-gallon aquarium. Should I use a filter, or would that hinder algae growth?
Does the water need to be a specific temperature?
Any advice you can give me would be appreciated. Thanks!! :)

I actually have a snail tank and they are just fine by themself, I think they like it better then being with fish since they don't have to worry about them attacking their antennas. Since they poo just like any other living creature then yes they do need a filter, temp does matter so try and keep it around 74ish. Algae is really more of a snack to snails rather then their food so you can make a food for them or buy them shrimp pellets and algae wafers, they also like veggies. I make mine a pumpkin cookie, here is a site with that recipe plus a few others. http://www.thesnailstore.com/index.php?act=viewDoc&docId=9

I'd say keep the filter going, and toss an algae pellete in every other day. If you dismantel the filter your tank will stink!
You don't need other fish to live in there, but one little rosey-red will be good to help keep biological filter in balance. Get a product called, "Cycle, by Nutrafin" This is a biological filter kick-start solution, I swear by it. DO NOT add Aquarium Salt to your snail tank. Your snails will die. I found out the hard way on that. $10 worth of snails all died in two days from adding Aquarium Salt, which is good for fish gills but bad for snails.

From what I was told they should be with other fish. Mine are thriving on the algae. I have a filter, and the water temp is 70-72 degrees. I shop at world wide aquarium and they are good at answering my questions. Why not look up google and search there.

Snails are a trademark of overfeeding. shrink back on feeding the fish. to help get rid of them get some lettuce and submerge it in a bowl. The snails will pass to the lettuce and you will take it out with a collection of snail linked and sell off it. try this over the direction of a number of days and you will see the snail inhabitants pass down. they actually do no longer harm the tank different than being grotesque - unelss there are diverse them and that they could have a die off - then you definitely will have a nitrite or ammnia spike. Dont motel to chemical compounds to take them out - it particularly is on no account solid interior the long-term.

Here's some info I found:

I imagine if you didn't have fish in the tank to eat them, you could feed the snails the algae/spirulina pellets for herbivorous fish.

just leave them alone. we had snails in a goldfish bowl type thing for years. i would say to get rid of the filter and turn off the pump. your tank wont be very pretty, but the algae will grow. snails are pretty cool though, ours had babies and everything and we didn't have to do anything for them.

The snails feed on dead guppies and dirt has nutrients in it. It feeds on nature.
