You can't. Best solution is to learn how to be a team player and try to get along with them as best you can and to cover your rear as much as possible...if they know you are the instigator for getting them demoted, or ever find out, they will team up to work against you and get rid of you completely.

don't ever be intimidated! let them know that they will be held accountable for their responsibilities, set your expectations, and let them know you have zero tolerance for people who do not pull their own weight. but if they do something right, praise them and make it a big deal and tell everyone of their accomplishments. be a great leader and lead them!

it actually happened to me, i just started at this one place and a guy higher in the food chain was a real prick and rude especially to the new people. after pissing me off by talking to me as if i was 12, i straight up told him that he should "watch his tongue because one day you will work for me!" sure enough, within 6 months i got promoted into a managerial position and reported to me. let's just say he was the ideal case study for the worst kind of employee. so the first day, i set him straight and let him know about my zero tolerance policy and expectations. he tried to test me a couple of times and i just about wrote his butt out the door. but when he did something worthwhile, i praised him up the ying yang and made sure the other managers made notice about his achievements! it work and busted his tail for me. he's still a prick and needs to be checked once and a while.

sound as if it came back around and bit you in the rear. Sounds like you had better get use to them or watch your back since they may know you are behind them getting demoted.

As frustrating as it is, the best thing for you to do is show that you are the better employee, if they know you were the one responsible you are going to have to watch your back, be careful what you say and to who you say it to.
Watch them closely, make note of any discrepancies, poor work, breeches of contract, breeches of OHS and keep a detailed record.
I only hope that you originally acted because of their poor work performance and lack of team work.

Get yourself promoted, moved to another office or another group where you don't have to work with them. Look for other better job opportunities and tell them about it.
