I had that done a few years ago and I'm sorry to say it falls under the title "necessary EVIL " !!! I had the biopsy done though and with me I was told I had a very sensitive cervix and that's why the pain was so great. The nurse was quite angry with the doctor because he wouldn't stop the procedure. To put your mind at ease a little it was mostly the biopsy that caused the pain at least the worst of it . The solution if memory serves correctly was vinigar and then iodine ( they spread over your cervix ) so nothing so drastic.I think they will take greater care with you because you are pregnant . Please try and relax as much as possible ..... it takes about 15 minutes once you are there and then it's over. Take care .... I wish you all the best !!! : )

I've had two colposcopys in the last 7 years for cinIII and cinII, A colpscopy is a little like a smear execept they take swabs which is coating the area of abnormality with an iodine solution which shows the abnormal cells, a biopsy is usually taken as routine as they then send this small sample to the pathology lab for further testing this sample is what will determine the level/grade of the abnormal cells cinI mild dyskariosis, cinII moderate dyskariosis and cinIII severe dyskariosis, I am interested to know how they can determine any abnormality you may have without doing a biopsy. The colpscopy is a little uncomfortable but they do give you a local injection to numb the cervix so you don't feel anything. Good luck I hope all goes well for you.

A colposcopy in itself is not bad. If they have to do a bio[biopsy, it will hurt. The doctor will rub a vinegar solution on your cervix, next he/she will look at your cervix through a high powered microscope. The vinegar makes any abnormal cells show up. Good Luck .

It's just uncomfortable. If no biopsy are being done then it's shouldn't hurt at all.
