Let r = the number of red marbles
and b = the number of blue marbles

"a box contains 210 marbles which are either red or blue" tells you that: r+b = 210

"there are 12 more red marbles than blue marbles" tells you that: r = b+12

Combining the two equations you get r = 111, b = 99

210 / 2 = 105
105 - 12 = 93 blue marbles (44% @ 93 divided by 210)
105 + 12 = 117 red marbles (56% @ 117 divided by 210)

93+117 = 210 marbles with 117 red marbles in the box.

210 marbels - 12 red marbles = 198 marbles
198 marbles / 2 = 99 marbles
therefore 198 marbles = 99 blue marbles & 99 red marbles
99 red marbles+12 red marbles =111red marbles

first lets give a variable to each marble:

red = X
blue = Y

now we have to put them on a system of equations:

x + y = 210
x - y = 12

now that you got the system of equations you have to sole it which there are many different ways to do that. I will use elimination since its the easiest in this case.

x + y = 210
+ x - y = 12
------------------------
2x = 222
x = 111

there 111 red marbles and all you have to do to is to subtract it from 210 to get the answer for blue marbles which is 99.

well again over thinking, 210 Mable's divide by 2 then add 6 (that is half of 12) so assume average is equal then there should be
111 red and 99 blue.

let x r blue
then x+12 r red
total x+(x+12)=210
2x+12=210
2x=198
x=99
so no of blue is 99 and no of red is 111
