you have not mentioned which programs you are running, some antivirus programs can be resource intensive. Try disabling some programs from startup and see if there is any change in the performance. If possible you can do a complete formatting and reinstallation which should put your pc back to its original performance

I don't think you should have that problem unless you have too many programs running as once. I have a computer that is 5 years old, yet it still runs good enough. Compare to yours, it only has 0.9 GHz and 512 mem. What I did was close every start up programs. I usually go to program and find "startup". I would suggest you erase everything there. Then, when your computer is running, close almost everything on your notification area on bottom right. That should do it. If not, I would say reinstall your operating system and try to erase every useless stuff.

You didn't mention what OS your running. Win XP needs 128MB memory just too install it and run it. You really need more memory than what you have now. Another 512MB of memory would improve your speed. Also you have too keep your browser cache cleaned out. There is an excellent website that will aid you in troubleshooting and also fixing the problems it will find. They also have automatic fixers that you just run. Most of all this is free. I have been using this site for about 6yrs now. They also sell whats called PC Pitstop Optimize. Its not expensive and it does an excellent job of cleaning up all the loose ends. Just run it once a week. This keeps a computer running a lot quicker! It is a safe site. It will not harm your computer.

More memory to start with...
Also, if there's any BAD sectors on your harddrive where the operating system is stored, that will cause a big slow down because of errors...Do a checkdisc to see if it's good.
Another thing is Windows itself may have become corrupted and now working properly anymore...
You can try to repair it with the Windows installation disk, or just Format and Reinstall it clean...(Recommended)
Bottom line: You probably have install a program that's causing Major Driver conflicts and that's causing your computer to slow why down...this has happened to me before in the past and the only fix was formating and reinstalling Windows "Clean".

You need more RAM at that speed. The more RAM you put on a computer, the faster it can access things in its memory.
If the your internet connection is running slow it could mean that either you connection is too slow or that you need to adjust your cache setting.
After deleting so much stuff on your machine, you also may wish to defragment your hard drives as that can affect the speed of which a computer can access files.

If your computer is Pentium4 2.0, 480 mb ram is not good enough. Your computer will run faster if you have 1G of memory. But it's better if you use 2G, 1G for each ram cards.
2nd, defragment your computer. You'll see it will run faster than it is now.
Try to limit the number of spywares and anti-virus softwares coz they really slowdown computer operation

Have you scanned for Spyware? If not download, update and scan with Spybot and Adaware. How long since you ran a diskcleanup? Is your drive free from fragmentation? This disease can slow things down. Keep a check on frag levels and also on the free space.

Well - assuming your running XP - 480 megs about enough to be OK... (xp likes a gig minimum or your going to have to optimize often)
It sounds like your intenet is slow - you didnt detail what exactly was running slow - try downloading and installing ADAWARE SE from download.com - its free... gets those invisable programs that you dont know you have off your computer that hog bandwidth....

try running msconfig on the run command in the start menu. then go to startups and uncheck things that you don't think you need to be started every bootup. that way you save memory.
also try defragmenting your hard drive, if you've deleted a lot of files your hard drive may have been fragmented and may need defragmentation. all else fails, format your PC and install a fresh copy of your operating system.

My computer starts to run slow every year. I do as you have done with spy-ware and all. Noting helps, so I end up reformatting my hard drive and it runs likes new again. You may need to do this.
