Since English is this country's language. I feel it should be just that.

It would be a wonderful thing if there was one and only one language. The most widely used language in the world is English. It's obviously not hard to learn when you see people coming from India, Peru, Italy, China and pretty much everywhere else and they know the English language. However, you can take a look at a Mexican who has been here for 10 years and can't speak a lick of English. Why not just start printing everything in Hebrew and make the American citizens have to learn that too? I don't think so.

Yes. Last time I looked...all the highway signs were in English.
In regards to all the other areas, you need look no further than California to see what a mess it is to have to publish things in more than one language. Instead of printing up ONE ballot in English, they must print them up in over 20 different languages. Think of the cost. Also, imagine a contract done in two languages with slight differences in what they say. Which one is the OFFICIAL contract if there is a dispute?
The USA is held together by two things. The Constitution and a common language. Lose either one and we will be a nation divided by language. Imagine the "fast food syndrome" spreading out into other businesses. Everyone speaking a single foreign language to the extent that an English speaking person can not work there. Right now we see the beginning of that, where employment ads say you must be "bilingual" to apply. They mean you must speak English and Spanish. There goes that job for the majority of Americans, leaving the position open to Hispanics.

In many other countries people speak multiple languages. It would benefit US citizens to be multilingual.
By preventing non-English speakers from testing for their driver's licenses and other things in their native languages, we place a burden on English speakers AND the non-English speaking people.
If we want to make English the official language of the US it would be necessary to provide free English as Second Language classes for non-English speakers.

Allow me to bring you and any democrats who read this up to date.
The following is the results of a vote taken in the Senate to make English the official language of the United States (this is public record): 34 Senators voted AGAINST it,
32 democrats, 1 republican and 1 independent.
And, for what it's worth, a Senatorial vote resulted in the following allowing illegal aliens access to Social Security benefits. (again, this is public record)
Voted FOR this proposal:
37 democrats,11 republicans and 1 independent
And these votes were taken before the democrats were the majority!
I think we might be in some deep doodoo after the past Nov election results..........

I am of the belief that an official language is necessary to keep things in uniform control ..i.e. phamplets, policies etc must be writtenin one language for a country to be represent as organized. In India many languages are spoken and written , therefore, many rules and regulations in Hindi, Urdu, Punjabi etc which can cause discourse throughout the country.
I would say that one must learn the language of the country one lives in and conform to it in all ways , if possible.
