You are probably referring to manufacturing.

Canada is often referred to as a resource based economy.
Primary industries of mining, oil production, agriculture/aquaculture, fishing, hunting are important, but are not as large a part of the economy as manufacturing. A tree, cut up for lumber will not produce as much wealth as taking that lumber and building chairs out of it. That secondary industry of chair manufacturing greatly increases the value of that lumber to the economy. Same thing for fishing. We can catch the fish and then send it to the US for processing, or we can catch the fish, process it in Canada, then sell it to the US. The value of 1 kilo of processed fish is much higher than 1 kilo of unprocessed fish.
It creates jobs and wealth.

One of our largest creators of wealth in Canada is automobile manufacturing. The car plants in Ontario create great wealth and employment in central Canada.

Just as a note, as important as manufacturing is, Canada relies
(just like most developed nations) mostly on tertiary industries for the majority of their GDP. There is more money in sales, service and professional knowledged industries than primary or secondary sectors.

do you mean like the fisherman? If it were not for them then there would not be a lot of fish for other people to eat, and this also gives them a income to support their families.
