Why is it that I have never seen a swallow albiet barn swallow or mud swallows land in a tree. These birds that I am writing very common durning the early spring and near the end of summer here in British Columbia south.

Barn swallows although almost always are seen flying and swooping through the air after insects in flight , they are not always in the air. They can be seen resting in trees and even feeding on insects in the trees, especially around creeks. You can see them
'water skating" from the trees. They get their drinks on the wing and skim along the water to bath. Then back to the trees to preen and dry. Sometimes I'm sure that you have seen them resting on electrical wires.

Hmmmm... now that you say it, I'm wondering too.
I tried looking it up but couldn't really find anything about it. I found this article about Tree Swallows though and just like their name says, they love trees. Before I found this article though, I would've said that swallows might have a hard time maneuvering around trees or just simply prefer wide open spaces.
