Have you read Saving Francesca by Melina Marchett? It is one of my favorites. Or The Year of Secret Assignments by Jaclyn Moriarty? Or The Murder of Bindy MacKenzie by Jaclyn Moriarty? And for another Australian writer, try Markus Zusak. He wrote I Am The Messenger and The Book Thief.
Other suggestions...
Dairy Queen by Catherine Gilbert Murdock
Twilight by Stephenie Meyer
The Truth About Forever by Sarah Dessen
Uglies by Scott Westerfeld
A Great and Terrible Beauty by Libba Bray
Hope Was Here by Joan Bauer

Bronte's 'Wuthering Heights' is always good for a teenage girl. Despite it's Gothic setting, it covers a lot of interesting themes like discrimination, female emotion, eating disorders etc. The famous character of Cathy is fascinating to 'watch'- like a car crash.
If you haven't already read it, Melina Marchetta's 'Looking For Alibrandi' is good, too.
Also, Margaret Clark has some good novels for teenage readers. Basically anything is good, except for the Chickabee series, which is aimed at youngers girls. I read them all at 12 and they're too lame for an older audience.
Another good Australian author is Isobelle Carmody, who wrote the Obernewtyn Chronicles, as well as 'The Gathering', which is one of the classic Australian novels. Her work is all fantasy, but it makes for a compelling read.

It's a short book, and I can't remember the name of the author..
"The Witch of Blackbird Pond"
It's not about a witch, it's about a girl who befriends an old lady. It's a young adult or young reader book, but it has a great story. I'm 23 and I still really enjoy reading this one.

I suggest Someone Like You by Sarah Dessen and I heard that Twillight and New Moon are really good, but not sure about the author of the two books.

Well, if you like Australian authors, check out books by Matthew Reilly who is undoubtably(in my humble opinion) the greatest thriller writer on the planet today.
