I am stil in the process of moving from one place to another. I told my old landlord that I would shampoo the carpets as soon as I get everything out, just in case because I had animals. This was not requested of me, it was something I offered. Last night I got the final stuff out of her place and today she went with a blacklight in the dark and looked for any urine stains that could not be seen with the naked eye and marked them. I just feel like tha t is really petty especially after she told me that her animal had accidents there before I moved in. I mean I offered to do the shampooing, but now I don't even want to, I am really aggravated. What are your thoughts?

It does sound very petty.

Did you fill out an walk through inventory when you moved in? It should state the condition the apartment was in when you moved in. This should have been done with you and your landlord. All you have to do is get it to the same condition.

She is not allowed to use the blacklight unless she used it when you moved in bc you cannot see the stains with your naked eye.

You said you'd do it beforehand, so you may be stuck with doing the carpet. I say get a professional if possible to do it just in case the stains are still there so you're won't be at fault.

That is irritating, but just do the shampooing like you promised and then get the heck out of there. You'll never have to see her again after that.

Well, you told her you'd do it, so, stick with your word, better to forgive and forget, then learn from the past. Usually that is what the pet and/or security deposit is for, if she doesn't like, she can pound sand.

You made the offer, you should stand by your word. I agree she was a little crass, but it is not about her. It is about you honoring your word.

I wouldn't do it. It's not required. She was taking advantage of you for being nice.
