I recommend water with tea tree oil in it, warm salt water, or warm sage tea.
To nake a water of tea tree oil take 8 OZs water, and 10 drops of tea tree oik, and shake well.
If you want the oil and water to blend add a teaspoon of vodka so the oil and water can mix.

Drink this all day.
8 ounces of tepid water
2TBS. Maple syrup
2TBS. Lemon Juice
1/8 tsp. cayenne pepper(red pepper, but not chili pepper)
Take it with you in a water bottle using room temp water.
Stir as you drink.
Put hot water into a mixing bowl and cover your head with a towel and breath in the fumes. Make sure the water is in a secure position. You can add a vapor paste to your throat before doing this and try to do this several times per day. It will be hot as it opens the pours on your face. Just keep at it and clean your face and you will look healthy while your feeling ill.
Also swish sesame or sunflower oil or Extra virgin Olive oil between your teeth and under your tongue for 20 minutes. Then spit into a trash can and brush teeth and rinse with mouth wash.

Gargle with very warm salt water every hour to half hour . The saltier the better and keep it up till you begin to have relief from the pain . Start the regimen again in the morning and continue on schedule till you can get to the doctor if need be . Best home remedy there is till you can get professional help . The key is persistence . I feel your pain , dealt with the same problem since grade school .

No! Don't drink anything COLD! Don't listen to that advice. Gargling with warm salt water will absolutely do the right thing.
But by all means do not drink anything cold and drink warm to hot beverages. Cold drinks irritate the Larynx even more and you really don't want that...
