how do we distinguish art? what is difference between art and craft?

Art in general is something that comes from a deeply
creative mind and is executed through originality and
developed skill. It has the power to transform those
who view it in many ways, to illicit palpable reactions,
stimulate mind, body and spirit, evoke society's wrath
or praise. In essence it is the ultimate accomplishment
of man that transends all and represents humanity
through the ages. Craft is also skillful, but is defined
as the implimentation of techniques used to produce
a desired result such as woodworking, knitting, pottery,
etc. It is the more practical side of invention and
although highly praised cannot reach the lofty heights
of The Pieta, The David, a Renoir or a Velasquez.
