I do know based on my experience downtown Portland is much safer than downtown L.A. - i flew into Portland at night a few years back, and was surprised to see nice-looking, well dressed women (definitely not hookers) walking around the downtown area, definitely in the "worst" part of town - like near the bus depot, etc. - it was a much different feel. Keep us posted...
