If we lose the war, it'll make them happy for sure. Then they can claim 'victory' for their side, thus, their method for getting 'votes'.

Seriously? You're serious with this question? Ok, fine.
We would love to see America win a war. We would love to see our troops returning triumphantly from Darfur right about now. But that only happens in the alternate reality we envision in which Gore was sworn in as president after he was elected. Frankly after the giant clusterfuck the man currently in office has made of our last two wars-the first of necessity, the other of choice-we're hankering for something, anything, we could cling to as a source of national pride. The fact that the American public finally got over their fear of 9/11 and returned Congress to the people who actually know how to govern, instead of just win elections through scare-tactics and appoint their cronies to positions that require a great deal of expertise, was a start, but it's going to have to be until at least 2008 that we can really feel proud of ourselves as a country.
As to the current situation. This war is unwinnable. It cannot be resolved through a military solution, and possibly not even diplomatically. The war on terrorism in general cannot be won militarily, as our enemy has cells in too many countries to invade. We need to increase the manpower of the CIA, starting with the rehiring of those Arab translaters, which we short on to begin with, who were fired for being gay. This is a war of intelligence and information, not battlefields and tanks. We need to alter our strategy. Getting the hell out of Iraq will free up the funding to do just that.

Umm...
Maybe we don't want to see America LOSE a war, cause we AIN'T winning.
Think Vietnam, Mogadishu, Korea (still a problem LONG after the war).
Not to mention all the problems in the middle-east and the entire cold war stemming from a very poor handeling of winning world war II.
Not to mention the WWII steming from WWI which was also poorly resolved by the winning americans.
We are damned either way, we are not sucessful war mongers at all. We seem to do horribly winning or losing.

i actually believe that individuals falsely believe that the conflict in Iraq became meant to be a type of conflict fought the place one wins and the different loses. It became no longer that. the purpose became to rigidity Saddam Hussein to open up his weapons Of Mass Destruction. We got here upon none. however the undertaking became no longer over. next became to seize Saddam and renounce him to an Iraq courtroom to be tried for crimes against Iraqi human beings. That became performed. next became to stay positioned till such time that the Iraqi human beings could choose a govenment that became democratic in coverage and that Iraq might desire to guard itself with out outdoors intervention. it particularly is the place we are actually. yet we can never be waiting to declare victory, because of the fact we did no longer pass into Iraq with the intentions of winning. It became to topple a regime and set up a govenment for the individuals and by ability of the individuals.

For the same reason that conservatives say "we want traditional values" instead of we support a fundamentalist and repressive regime that wants to erode the freedoms gained by 200 years of struggling for them.
The reason is that it is not what they actually believe. It's just lies and propaganda created by both sides to have us fighting eachother over petty things when there are huge issues in this country and in the world that need attention.

When conservatives say they want to "stay the course," why don't they just admit that they want to make sure the defense industry can keep making huge profits off of it?

america has been waiting for this war to be "won" for 5 years now and things have only gotten worse for us. liberals are right that we want change because we're tired of seeing our troops die every day and we're tired of bush pretending like he knows what hes doing. this war was supposed to be over already, according to bush but he keeps swearing that everythings going to be okay

130 Iraqis killed today by other Iraqis. Now tell me, how do you figure on winning this war? Bush has had 5 unfettered years and it is worse now than ever. Losing this war is Bush's responsibility. And he's losing it very well.

With 71% of the nation finally realizing this war is a mistake and we're in a mess....it's not just the liberals anymore.
Today 3 Republicans crossed over.

Exactly!!! They want us to lose so they can gain political ground. When asked that question, if they want us to win, none of the liberals will answer. They can just say "errrrr, uhhhh" but no other response. Leiberman is the only one with any backbone. Clinton had a breif glimpse of reality, until she flip-flopped, once again.
See!!!!! Not one response from anyone siding with the liberals here can answer this question, only excuses. Unbeleivable!!

Because it is the Republican President that does not want us to win the war. If he did we would have already won it. This after all is the American Military we are talking about. The strongest Armed Forces in the world. They can't win with the wrong leadership. Point made.
