Or can it stay in there and cause problems or something?

Your body produces your menstration blood, and if you don't have any it means that your body did not produce enough for it to leave the body. It's no big deal usually, it's all a matter of your weight (generally the less body fat you have the less you will bleed), nutrition (if you aren't getting enough nutrients your body won't waste it's energy on menstration), and how regular your period is. It's different for every girl.

There is a condition called Endometreosis where your menstration tissue, instead of forming in your uterus, backs up and attaches to your kidneys or other organs in your lower abdomen, but unless you are experiencing pain other then regular cramps I wouldn't suspect something that serious.

The blood just stays in your body. It is not harmful. Remember, your body is just full of the stuff. When you period starts, the blood comes from the other parts of the body and fills the uterus. It is not present in the uterus until that lovely time of the month.
You can relax now.

if you have just started your period not to long ago, your period wont have any regualr time, or if you are very active it might skip once in a while. Your fine if you have the above qualifications.
