Why PAY that much? Please don't get caught up in the "hipe" of the wedding spend-a-thon.
Depending on your wedding, those places are just waiting for scared brides to max out their own or parents credit cards.
So shop in March/ April or July/Sept (best deals) I have seen some GREAT dresses for $99- $300. So have an idea of what you want, and keep your mind open. Don't fall IN LOVE with the dress or the pieces that go with it.
Look for a Style and then a color that looks good on you- white many times is NOT the right color. So watch the dress color, the other pieces will clash.
Talk to friends and mothers- I had a bride that borrowed everything- and saved all that money for an incredible 14 day cruise. Another one coupon shopped and paid cash for her's and no one knew the wiser, it was a really great, fancy wedding. Formal sitdown.
Talk to girlfriends- borrow the veils ($50-500 those suckers are pricey) Buy low end shoes, you will NEVER wear them again.
Don't be afraid to ask for a deal. They will work it for you.
I had my dress custom made- it was actually golden, brocaide with ivory panels, since I am so pale white, no store dress looked good on me. I would recommend that it be competeed at least a month before the wedding- i was sewing on mine on the way to the alter- in the horse drawn carriage.

Not if I had the chance to do it all over again. I'd buy a $99 wedding gown from David's Bridal and then take the other $900 and put it toward something practical. Your wedding ceremony is just a few hours, then its over, and you'll never wear the gown again.
And while the idea of saving your gown for your daughter is nice, I don't know how often it actually gets worn again. There's no way in the world I would've gotten married in my mother's short white skirt and pill box hat (the Jackie Kennedy look), and I kinda bet my daughter won't have any desire to wear my big, puffy sleaved, heavily beaded 80's gown either.

A 1,000 is a really really cheap price for a wedding dress. For a wedding woman spend 1,000 just on thier shoes

No, think it would be wise to spend more money on other more important things. Set a budget for the gown and make do with what you can afford. There are lots of affordable gowns with different fabulous looks!

Nope. A $1,000 wedding gown won't wash our clothes like a Kenmore would.

Not me. Mine cost less than $200. But I didn't feel the need to have a big, fancy wedding. I was funding it myself and it was rather informal and small. Even if I had the money, I doubt I would have spent it on a dress to be worn once.

Depending on if I had enough money, yeah, I would. I love looking and feeling like a princess, and what better way than your wedding day. You will cherish it for the rest of your life and could possibly pass it down to your daughter or someone else.
