Good question. If things continue to intensify with Iran, I could only imagine the President wouldn't have many options but to request the reinstatement of the draft. However, now that the Democrats run the House and the Senate I would imagine it would be hard sell for the president to make. As unpredictable as the present Iranian regime seems to be, they may actually end up making it a very easy argument for the President to take to the American Public. I'm becoming very uneasy with the striking similarities between the arguments for war in Iraq and the present rhetoric by the Administration towards Iran.

No reason to assume a draft is coming. It has not even been discussed by anyone except the critics of the President. We do not "recycle" our troops in the derogatory sense. We sometimes keep them longer than it was originally planned to try to not have to deploy new Brigades. As for the Reserves, they are doing a great job but those complaining about serving forget that they signed the contracts. We were never paying them to play soldier 1 weekend a month, it was always intended they would help the military when needed. they have been called for that needed help.
They will not draft while there are soldiers under contract not being used.

If GWB could have done it he would have done it in a heartbeat!
He is going to be gone. He won't quit and will pass his mess on to his successor.
I think the draft is over, not just in the US, but in UK, Germany, Japan, France, Canada, Australia.
The western world has been there, done that in WW1, WWII, Korea, Vietnam.
Draft means, more kids for us to send to their death.
That is over!!
Unfortunately GWB is abusing the Reserves and National Guard.
