What are British upper middle-class people all about? In what kind of neighbourhoods would they reside? What are some typical occupations they would be employed at? What sort of cars do they prefer? What type of leisure activities are they primarily interested in? Which newspapers and magazines do they read? What kind of names do they give their kids? What sort of foods do they like? Where would they go on holiday? What sort of range in salary would they earn per year?

We seek out and destroy people who take the ****
We don't work, we 'suck' incalculable amounts of money from you mere mortals.
We Holiday in Bognor Regis of course.
We all live in Weybridge, Surrey.
Drive Vauxhall Cavaliers to keep the Roll's nice and clean for special occasions.
We read 'The Sport'.
Play Badminton and Polo.
Our children are called Petronella and Tarquin preferably.
We eat everything that's put infront of us as long as it's taken the chef at least two hours to prepare.
Our main liesure activity is coming to Yahoo questions to discover the identity of those taking the ****

We Know Who You Are.

The middle class can be defined as a family unit where mom and pop provide for the family and have most of their needs met and some left over for some fun and luxury. Upper-middle class are richer than middle class, can afford to meet all of the needs of a middle class family and can afford a few of the luxuries of the upper class. They are not upper class but have had a taste of what that life is like - hence the analogy of the 7-series and the 3-series BIMA.

They are a breed or their own

They are snobs
They wont talk to you if you are not up to 'their' standard
Never lift a hand to help anyone who is not one of 'them'
By the time they are thirteen, it is already decided who they are going to marry, the females are groomed for exactly that.
Sports: They drink tea all the times and go horse back riding
They talk throuh their noses
They all try to be like th queen and the princes

Well you look like one from your pic- write about your own family, parents etc. Are they doctors? lawyers? I see these as upper-middle class jobs.

They like The Times. They would own a second home in Foeurta Ventura or something, or a gite in France.

Dunno- you'd have to ask one- probably your own mother by the look of your avatar:)

Like all fascists, they take pride in looking down on others. Whether it be: Class, Race, Background, Job, Car size, Level of formal Education, Accent, The way one holds oneself, Level of cutlery use at meal times.

A surprising number of these people are Socialists. Which of course is an easy stance to take once you HAVE money! It is also usually to disguise deeper feelings of insecurity - using a complex system of denial of ones own wealth, hides the deeper and rather remarkable feeling of actually needing to feel better than as many people as possible. The worst cases can be found at charity events demonstrating an unending need to "Help out". Covering the real reason they "Help out" - which is to feel better than who they are supposedly aiding. Real guilt can be found in a very limited number.

We are told the class system doesn't exist, but here in Britain we still manage to police ourselves into our separate sub categories. Monetarily the gap has all but disappeared, but mentally nothing has changed. There will always be people who need to look down on others to feel better about themselves. This of course is the fault of the French.

So I hope you feel better after reading all your replies, Monsieur!

P.s...Can I av sum bred guvna....I've done me 20 owers in the feeled wiv me plow, and me littel one's cleaned ya chimnee sir. Much Obliged guv.

I don't think you can distinguish really. I have a friend who was well brought up and educated by reasonably wealthy parents, they lost their wealth but retain their manners and excellent attitude to life. Being a lady (or gentleman) is more about the way you conduct yourself than your bank balance! (although admittedly, the money is gorgeous!)

They are usually well educated people who can read and write and are intrested in deep subjects and they usually wear lots of designer clothes, because they are rich enough to spend their money on rich clothes, where as poor people are not well educated and wear scruffy clothes.
