Some amount of pain is normal but excruciating cramps, and heavy periods could be a sign of Endometriosis. If over the counter medicine like Advil or Midol do not work for you, then you need to see a doctor and get a prescription for something stronger. You could use a hot water bottle and take it easy the first few days. My periods were extra long 7 to 10 days on average and always irregular.

Mine is usually all seven days, but my last one was strangely short. I always have pain on the second day. The pain used to be really bad but once I realized your period is for cleansing I let it all out that time of the month and the pain was reduced dramatically and I have not had a problem in years. Pain killers don't work on me the best thing to use is just something hot. A hot bath, a hot water bottle, whatever! Good luck!

6 or 7 days. The pain isn't bad unless I am dehydrated, so I make sure I start drinking lots of water prior to my period. When I do get cramps and stuff I take some kind of pain reliever (advil, asprin, ect.) and take a bath.

I'm pregnant, but before I got pregnant, my periods were always about 5 days long. I didn't really get that uncomfortable during my period, mostly just my back, and I would always have my boyfriend rub it to make it feel better. Sometimes I get cramps, but I take ibruprofen or midol for it, and it helps :) Make sure you drink plenty of fluids like water :)

Mine is 6 days.
My worst pain is during the PMS two weeks before till I get my period (bad headaches from excess fluid). I take PMS medication for that (Acetaminophen with two diuretics).
I get some cramping the first four days of my period, but I don't take anything for it.

My period tends to be irregular, so it usually lasts 6-9 days. Thank Good God I don't have any symptoms or pains, except for bloating..but I can deal with that.
