You don't retain much of the information because you don't want to. It is absurd that you spend time reading something and then not remember much of it. You have to make up your mind, do you want to attain the knowledge or not. If you don't then give it up, but if it is something you want and need to know then relate the material to yourself. An example of that would be if you are studying the subject of law. Read it and act it out. Read a chapter and say it back to yourself. Give yourself a complete run down of what you just read. As you read the chapter, make notes, then recite to youself, out loud what you just read and then find some way to apply it to something in your life. Give the words some energy, make them come alive. If you were studying for a part in a play, you would have to read the script, then read it again and begin to commit it to memory. The way to accomplish remembering the script is to not memorize but make it become a natural part of the character that you are projecting. You must become the part, the character and give it a personality. Words on a piece of paper are just words.. they don't become interesting until you make them come alive..When you give a life to them, then they become a part of you.. Read it and explain it to yourself as though you are the one who is being informed. Once you have over come your dis-interest and give life to the words, they will have meaning and value to you.. Good luck

What helps me is taking notes. Not a lot of notes, just write down the basic ideas. I also make flash cards a lot to study by myself. If you know anyone who can study with you that would help, too. You should review your material every night for about ten minutes. It'll be easier to remember then. To help you concentrate you're going to have to experiment a little. I prefer having a really boring television show on in the background, something that I won't want to watch. I don't like silence, but maybe you do. Also try studying in different places, your kitchen, your living room, etc. You probably shouldn't try to study in bed, though. Your body thinks you're going to bed and you'll get tired quickly. Hope this helps!

Sit down with the T.V off and make up silly sentences that start with the letter of the beggining of each word that you need to remember such as: if you needed to remember: ATP= Energy=Required for Active Transport= Energy Currency of the cell. You can remember ATP as, Edwin read for Allison's test, Eating corn on the chair, yes it's stupid, but if you repeat it over and over, you will remember it.

Make sure you are in a quiet room, no music, no tv. Get your books , paper, pencil and read, as you read, take notes. You should spend at least an hour and then take a 15 min. break and repeat. Good Luck.

if you have a girl friend its best you do it with her. basically, have her take off one article of clothing each time you finish an assignment. Ration it out so that by the time you finish all your assignments, there would be no more articles of clothing. I find that it gets the work done much faster than conventional methods of studying
