Yes he is. Lolita is his most famous book but it's wonderfully disturbing because it's written from the point of view of a child molester. If you think you are mature enough you shoudl read it but be really sure because after you read it you will never look at the world the same way again.
Nabokov also wrote many other books so you you might want to start with one of those first, try one of his collections of short stories to get a feel for him.

Nabokov's 'Lolita' is fabulous and thought provoking. It does feature some highly controversial subject matter- paedophilia- but the unique perspective you get from the protagonist is fascinating.

It can be long winded in some sections, but it's worth reading so that you can take a look back in time at what society found to be acceptable and normal and so that you can enjoy the depiction of what is surely the most famous ingenue in Western culture.

I think the reason Lolita was so famous was because even though it was written from the prospective of a child molestor, you don't hate him at the end of the book. He writes so well and so convincingly that you can start to sympathize with him and his love for her. I think when people read it, they're shocked by how much they can "relate" in a sense to the author. You should definitely give it a read.

YES!!!

"Lolita" is by Nabakov and it is one of the most amazingly beautiful works I've read. The topic is taboo, but the writing is so beautiful that you forget you're reading a story about a 40 year old's obsession with a teenager. Beautifully written; highly recommended!
