I heard he shot himself at his typewriter, just like E. Hemingway did. I do not know if it is true or rubbish, if you know of any of his work, do you like it? I think he was a good guy (based on what I have read)

Then, on February 16th, Hunter decided to leave a goodbye note. Scrawled in black marker, it was appropriately titled "Football Season Is Over." Although he left the grim missive for Anita, his young wife, Hunter was really talking to himself. Here, published for the first time, are perhaps his final written words:

No More Games. No More Bombs. No More Walking. No More Fun. No More Swimming. 67. That is 17 years past 50. 17 more than I needed or wanted. Boring. I am always bitchy. No Fun -- for anybody. 67. You are getting Greedy. Act your old age. Relax -- This won't hurt.

At the bottom of the page, Hunter drew a happy heart, the kind found on Valentine's cards. Four days later, on February 20th, he committed suicide by firing his pistol into his mouth.

Yes. He received the title "dr." by being a authorized reverend through the Universal Life Church. Of course, this isn't the Dr. you are thinking that is related to a "doctor" or dentist or pediatrician... but it is indeed a "Dr." (title) no he did not have a doctorate in journalism...

I wouldn't say he was a "good guy." He was an excellent writer though. He was a druggie and a drunk. I don't think he was working on anything when he committed suicide. I was living in Colorado when it happened...it was a HUGE deal. Mostly he taught other writers to think outside the norms of what is good journalism and story writing. I miss him.

I used to read his column in Rolling Stone back in the 80's. Pretty way out stuff..also "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas" was good.

I loved him. Wish he were still around.
