One thing you don't want to do is give it a title first. Start with a theme. You know a feeling you have at the moment, something you want to say to someone or some people, something your Grandpa said when you were a kid, anything.
A simple song should have a verse, then a chorus, another verse, then the chorus again, then a break for the guitar or other instrument to play to let what was said to sink in, and then another verse and then the chorus again.
All the verses should revolve around the chorus.
There are alot of ways to write songs. Start simple. As you flow along, don't be afraid to go back and change things. Pretty soon a title will just come to you, and when it does, you probably will change things.
To start, try writing a funny song. That way you'll keep motivated and not stress too much. You'll enjoy it and learn to get the feel of writing more enjoyable and rewarding.
Show your work to some folks, but remember, there will be critics, and some will want to rewrite some of it for you. I have a good analogy for that.
You know on the computer when you write a letter, and then you go spell-check? It has three buttons; one for "change", another for "ignore", and then another for "resume".
Well, when people read your stuff and give opinions, you can "change", or you can "ignore" and then you can "resume".
Hope you do well.

Ummm....it's just something you find and feel. Start out with a simple chord progression maybe and then make the chords interesting (different licks and fills). Then just feel the lyrics.
