Is there anything I can do?

Identity theft is a growing problem. Why is it that we are attatched to 9-digit number thaty is so readily available. It almsot defeats any other identifyign code that I use.

Why is it so neccessary to have this number & card to get a job?

If I became the victim of identity theft do to my SS number being compromised can I hold the government responsable?

You are obligated if your social securtiy number is stolen, for anything that is done under it. For example, if someone is working in Arizona, under your social and the next year you find out you own $25,000 in unpaid income tax, there is a problem (trust me, it is happening everyday). You do have to have a social to work, but now there is protection. If you are interested, I can send you information. Oh, and the government is not responsible.
