I have been getting the Goodstart with DHA and ARA for 6 months now- ever since I stopped nursing. It is the worst ever for clumping- no matter how I mix it (spoon, shaking- all but pouring it in a blender) and no matter how long, my girl is screaming after a few swallows because a clump is clogging the nipple. The last time, I bought the same but not the DHA/ARA (the store was out- big sale) and it doesn't clump at all. What do you think?

That formula is very bad at leaving clumps. The best way to lessen this is to make sure that you are boiling your water to make the formula. This does help. We switched are baby to Enfamil. He has much less colic/gas problems then before. Good Luck.

Ive used Goodstart DHA/ARA for the last 8 months and havent had that issue. There was one time when I shook it in the bottle without holding the nipple end closed off and a small clot got in there but it wasnt nothing like your describing.

I premix a days worth of formula every night before bed. I've found that really really hot water helps it to dissolve best (since I'm not serving it right away I don't have to worry about temperature), then I shake the heck out of it (by the time I serve it the bubbles that form from shaking have gone away). It can be stored in the frige for 24 hours. If I'm out and about and have to mix it when we're out and about I try to start about 10 minutes before feeding, use warm water, gently rock it back and forth for 30 seconds, let it settle for 30 seconds, and then rock it again for 30 seconds. I repeat that for 3-4 minutes and it helps eliminate the clumps.--we use the Kirkland (Costco) brand made by Similac (but less than half the price).

Use warm water but don't pour the formula in first. Pour the formula in after you have put the warm water in the bottle. Don't fill the bottle completly up with water though. Leave about an ounce. That is usually what worked best for me. Just find something that works best for you and baby and go with it.

I just want you to know that if you blend your formula with a blender that is creating so many air bubbles that are really bad for your babies stomach. I was having this same trouble and the doctor told me never to shake it just roll it in your hands!

All formulas are federally mandated to have the exact same nutrients in them. By law there are no substandard formulas. They are all equal. I find that my kids actually prefered the cheaper stuff to the expensive Similac. Save yourself some trouble and money, buy the cheaper stuff :)
