It means exactly what the others said, your question however means you should definitely get the V-6 model not the GT.

V8 simply means, like all the others have said, an engine with 8 cylinders in a vee configuration. There will be 4 cylinders on each bank and these two banks of 4 cylinders are usually set at an 90 degrees angle. Some have it at 60 degrees. This configuration helps to save space rather than, imagine it, 8 cylinders in a row. It does not, however, guarantee that the engine will be super smooth. The smoothest engine configuration in the world is the straight-six. It means having 6 cylinders in a row. the 4.6L means the capacity of the 8 cylinders total at 4.6 litres. 24 valves means each cylinder has 3 valves at the top of the cylinder. and 300hp @ 5750rpm means the maximum power of the engine (300hp) is produced at 5750 Revolutions Per Minute (RPM). So when the crankshaft of the engine is turning at 5750rpm, it will be producing 300 horsepower.

The 8 cylinders are divided into two sets of 4. Each set is set at an angle to the other like a V. 4.6 is the displacement (how much fuel and air can be contained in the 8 cylinders) 24 valve means that for each cylinder there are 4 valves (usually 2 intake and 2 exhaust) 300 hp is the amount of horsepower the engine produces at a given number of revolutions per minute (rpm) In this particular case 5750
So, this 4.6 liter displacement V8 engine with four valves per cylinder produces 300 horsepower at 5750 revolutions per minute.

The V represents the engine configuration or type of engine, the 8 represents the number of cylinders and pistons and spark plugs etc. , if it was a V6 it would be a six cylinder. This type of engine is a very old design and not very fuel efficient. The crankshaft of your engine is at the bottom of the V, the connecting rods run up the cylinders to the pistons at an angle like the slant of a V, you would find the spark plugs at each top point of the V, 4 on each side. (confused?)

V 8 = the number of cylinders in the engine. in V formation
4.6L = the metric liters in the total of cylinder placement {the space inside the cylinder walls}
300 hp = 300 horse power
5750 rpm = 5750 revolution per minute
to get 300 hp the engine would have to go 5750 rpm

everyone here answered this pretty well but none of them said anything about what it means for you as a car owner......I am assuming you are looking at a mustang? On the positive side the v8 will give you more speed, power and a higher resale value, not to mention the cool foglights that come on the gt. On the negative side the v8 means much higher insurance rates and much lower fuel economy.

The V8 is the number of cylinders the car has in a V-shaped configuration. So it's 8 cylinders in a V-configuration.
That car is badass btw =)
