why are you wasting your time and energy here? We all know what time it is. These people are in denial, do not attempt to have a discussion with them, it just gives them a sounding board to vent their racists view, some of them, NOT ALL, but unless I was in the privacy of people who looked like me, I would not waste my time or keystrokes on this forum, but now, you know that you are RIGHT ON TIME!!! And that is why they are all upset at you!!

PLease read the whole thing, Please.
So, let me see now, YOU worked the fields as slave? You must be really old!
And, just to let you know, the African slave owners would routinely KILL their slaves. And with little or no provocation. Many of these people sold into slavery by Africans were only alive due to the fact that they could be sold for profit. (I think that many of them would have rather been killed than have been sent to foriegn land and made slaves.)
I do agree that slavery was a horrible thing, but it happened three hundred years ago. And you seem to be forgetting that it was thousands of White people killing their own to secure the end of slavery in America. They did it because they were good people and wanted to see their fellow humans free. How about you modern black ancestors of slaves pay me for the loss of my kin folk that died to free your kin! Or the property that was lost in the process!
Bet you don't agree with that do you? Let it go, it has been three hundred years!
Slavery is and has NOT ever been OK. And it never will be either. No matter who sold who. And the white person that made that statement is moron and an unfeeling jerk! Of course this only my opinion, but I do believe it to be so. Don't let them get to you, when they do, they win. Most white people do not feel that way. Peace be with you my human brother. (Or sister, I am sorry but I do not know your gender.)

All I can say is that I don't think you were educated very well...hmm but no, no one owes you anything. why? because were you a slave? did you have suffer during those time? No and No. So why should you get free 100% cotton products? Seems to me like you just want to get something for free. You just don't want to work for things. Its pretty sad actually because you are representing other black people by writing this, whether you want to or not. Now people will just think "ugh, how can black people think they deserve things because African Americans were onced slaved." Maybe next time you should read a little more, get your facts together, and oh yea correct your grammar.
****Also even if your grandparents were slaves (which I highly doubt) you still dont deserve anything. why? because your grandparents were the ones who did all the work NOT YOU! Therefore we owe you NOTHING! If you are saying the slaves earned the free cotton products, then why should you get any? were you a slave? NO. Did you go out in the fields and work from "sun up to sun down"? NO. You had nothing to do with it, you are a regular person just like any other person here. And of course people are going to be offended, you are saying we owe you things you didn't earn.
You are mad because America wasn't free? Well isn't America supposed to be about treating everyone equal? well here it is, the U.S.A. has abolished slavery and we are all equal, right? But no, you are saying we are not equal. You are saying African Americans are special and deserve more..you're just going against everything...
"SO PREDICTABLE WHITE PEOPLE WHO ALREADY OWN DAMN NEAR EVERYTHING WANT MORE"
I'm not white, but what is this supposed to mean. First off your'e stereotyping, secondly it sounds like you just want free products because you don't want to work for it. sounds like you don't have everything YOU want and so you want more. Well you can't have things handed down to you, honey we are all equal and have to work for our things we can't just be lazy
so go out there and educate yourself please...

I'm sorry, but there isn't a single nationality in the world that hasn't suffered due to others at SOME point in history! If your mentality is that ppl owe you something because a couple of your ancestors were forced to work on a plantation without pay... then everyone owes SOMEONE something! Think of the Seigneurial systems all over europe in the middle ages and well into the 1800s. People litterally SLAVING away, working someone else's land in order to have a place to live... and most of them STILL got run off their land. Think of the Scots and the Orkney men and the Highlanders. Think to the Acadians deported to louisiana, some of them WALKED back to Canada. Think of the Aboriginal people who were nearly exterminated and run off their own HOME that they had lived in for centuries before the arrival of europeens. You are NOT the only one who's hard-done-by. Either get over it, or get in line.

This remark doesn't even get a response from me, I don't agree with you, but I have two points. By the way, if you really feel this strong over this subject, you should do some research. Not every American felt that slavery was okay, why do you think there was a civil war. That is all I am going to write. GOOD LUCK!!!
PS- The only one keeping you down is YOURSELF.
So this makes your grandparents over 200 years old, what is their secret,is it because they live in America?

First of all young lady the survey was most likly taken or fabricated by racists,Becuase that is not the way the majority of white people feel in this day and age.And even in the days of slavery there were many whites that were abolitionists and very much against slavery.
Yes there are still ignorant people in this world that may make stupid comments like that. And also fabricate surveys.Lots of work needs to be done through education and condemnation of racist attitudes in all forms and aspects. You are my sister even if your skin is different and I do love you. God bless and try not to be bitter about the sins of another generation. You are the future so make the best of it.

Don't take these people too seriously. They don't represent anything other than mass boredom.
No intelligent, thoughtful, responsible white person believes in slavery. Do not fret.
Now, that's not to say white people aren't racist. I think they mostly are. Thinly veiled beneath the surface. Events like the OJ trial, Katrina bring it out. If you want to get upset about something, wonder why even those whites that speak so vocally about equality and opportunity for African-Americans, such as wealthy white people in Boston, for example, at the same time fight and say "not in my neighborhood."
That's what we have right now in America. Equality, power, respect -- just as long as it's not in my neighborhood. That's what we need to look at.
I think it's largely a function of the growing cultural divide between African-Americans and Euro-Americans. Sadly, I do think it is widening right now. There's a sense that the promise of the Civil Rights movement has not been realized -- and so why bother.

Im just curious but how is it you believe you know how slaves were treated in Africa and that they were stolen from the Africans that were selling them to the white man?
And im also curious why it is that you are, by the way you are talking here, stuck in an issue that was abolished long before you were born?
And lastly, would you feel better if you were returned to Africa instead of being in the USA as it obviously is bothering you?
Edit: perhaps if you payed more attention in school you would know that "Japs" as you put it (speaking of that whos using derogatory/racist words) werent compensated. And that was for a completely different type of issue.. and one that was in recent history.
And you say your grandmother was a slave? do you actually even know when slavery was abolished? In case you skipped that part in school also 1863. 140 years ago. So.. unless your grandmother was like 80 when you were born and your also about that age i dont think so.

I thought this thread was going to be about us not using washcloths.
Joking aside, white people such as myself feel incredibly guilty for what went on with slavery, and the racist system that has followed it. To a large extent, that racist system has put people at a severe disadvantage.
Some whites feel uncomfortable with this guilt, and try to rationalize it away from themselves. It's a natural response when confronted with something so horribly wrong as slavery, that you feel you have no part of even though you may have benefited from the effects of that horrible system.
A lot of the problems with race in the US stem from a lack of honest communication. Many whites feel that blacks "hang the guilt of slavery in their face" but the reality is that most blacks don't hold contemporary whites responsible for slavery, they only want the remnants of the racist system that followed slavery to be erased. Some whites feel uncomfortable about the guilt and try to mitigate it to other sources, such as believing that the slaves were "properly bought" from African sources. They are wrong.
BTW I use washcloths.

Lady, you need to settle down. Yes, slavery happened in the past and that was unfortunate. Why you have a chip on your shoulder though is beyond me. You were never a slave and I never owned a slave, so shut up, grow up, and quick expecting a handout that you never earned. How can you move ahead in life if you're still fixated on the past??
