It seems the older I get the more attracted I am towards mature men, in particular the bear/otter (now that I know what it is) sort. More like me, although I have more of a swimmers build, but enough chest hair if shaved it could weave a rug. I'm asking is that as a gay man and getting older is it normal to look towards contemporaries as objects of attraction as opposed to the stereotype of lusting after juveniles or young men with firm bodies? Not that I'm going to do anything about it, but I have eyes, and I can see. Do you know what I mean?

Oh, and I'm in my early 40's.

I think it has more to do with life experience than age. I've seen more in my life than most people see in a lifetime. It hasn't jaded me, I won't let it, but it has made me more focused on the needs of others, yet I'm a sexual being. Okay, I'm getting way too deep and this can be misconstrued. Shut up Aaron.

Milkbone,

What you have described is quite normal, for either a gay or bisexual man. Each person (by the way, even straight people) have their lists of what attracts them, sexually. (Some people want someone who is like them; others want someone who has characteristics they do not have.)

Mature men with lots of body hair personify hypermasculinity and security for their admirers. It sounds like you want a partner who is similar to you in age and in hairiness. And my guess is (reading between the lines, if I may) that this admiration for guys with lots of body hair started very early for you, perhaps in your pre-teen years -- guys who have this admiration for hirsute fellows often begin this attraction when they themselves are developing, body-wise and sexually. Very early in life, masculinity and male sexuality are equated with heavy beards and thick chest hair, especially for these fellows. Hirsute models in male pornography, hairy male movie and tv stars, and hairy adult males around them -- that they might see changing in the locker room -- all become objects of their admiration. And many times, such admirers are in not the least bit attracted to males their own age as a teenager.

Quite normal, once again, Milkbone. My guess is that part of it is actually sexual attraction and part of it is just admiration for the male form, especially if the guys in question are hairy.

I think as a gentleman gets older they want more security. A furry bear I think personifies that security. I know that they are part of my fantasies nowadays as well, along with young men with firm bodies. Also the jock type, or muscular guys. Actually I like a bit of everything.
What was the question?

I'm 20 and I already like "older" guys (haven't found myself attracted to anyone over 40 as of yet, but 35 is still older than a lot of people would go for). I probably can't help you too much on what's "normal".

it all depends on if you "connect." when I was younger, I was attracted to women a little older than me. my first partner was 11 years older than me.
now I'm a little older, and I'm attracted to women a little younger than I am. my partner now is 9 1/2 years younger. I am 43 now.
I'm not really truly attracted to anyone much under 30 (mostly because we don't have as much in common...and some people already think my very young-looking 34 year old partner is my daughter).

I've always needed a man a little older than me. Some one with a little more experience, guidance, love, to make me feel secure. I do notice the young ones though. They are soooooooo cute! I can just eat 'em up with a spoon! It's not a sexual thing though; more like a mothering thing! I wanna rub their hair and pinch their cheeks!

Hey, I'm straight (and happily married) and I find myself attracted to woman in their 50s because they have pretty eyes and kind smiles and are very nice people. It's not a sexual thing as much as a that's-a-really-cool-person-I'd-like-to-spend-some-time-getting-to-know-better thing.

lol, not sure what a bear/otter type is...

Oh hell, I'd be lucky if I found a guy who actually practiced monogamy whether he's 18 or 81.

older, younger.... they all have assets and drawbacks. hehehe I like them all :P but have been staying away from the ones that are my oldest son's age. Just seems a bit weird to me, but they are nice to look at. ;)

it's ok and perfectly normal. plenty of ppl find that the more "unusual" type of man is attractive. there is nothing wrong with it.
