It seems like liberals have become so extremist that they talk about the Democratic Party the same way Bin Laden talks about Islam.
How come Republicans might still be pro-choice, pro-stem cell research, pro-marijuana legalization, pro-gov't healthcare but Dems are never pro-gun, or pro-longer prison terms, or pro-war, or anti-welfare, or pro-death penalty?
How come it seems like Dems follow their party like a religion instead of thinking about the issues individually?
Do they think that Matt Damon knows better how to run the country than President Bush, or idolize Alec Baldwin more than Martin Luther King (republican)?
Do Blacks realize that the first Republican President was the one who ended slavery?
How come Dems think it is a good idea to raise minimum wage and increase taxes? Don't they know that will RUIN the value of the dollar, hurt the poor the most, and eliminate small business?
Why would they NEVER vote for a Republican, even if he was the best candidate?

After some of the responses I got, I went back and read my question again. I think it is amusing that I am being called ignorant for asking question. I think that a few of you went off the deep end just as the question suggests you might.
Kings highway-I am not very Conservative. Thats part of the problem.
Oianzinho-I appreciate the info about Edwards. I didn't know that. Emotional baggage? I'm just asking questions. Relax. I think you are one of the extremists. I happen to be a pro-cannabis, pro-stem cell research, pro-nationalized health care, pro-choice Republican. So now you know one.
Sarcastro-I'm not sure I need to defend anything I think from someone named that. By the way, Vote McCain.
Peacedevi-I used the word SEEM also. There's no sense in speeding up inflation by raising min wage and taxes. Is there?
Susan S-I never said that Libs are Extremists. I said they seem that way. I do ask questions to see how people differ from me. What the hell are you answering?

i think since most believe that things should be given to them , they dont really need to work therfore they just wind up with to much time on their hands
they use this time to try to bring down those that believe you should work for what you want, thi way they can make themselves feel better about always having their hands out

First of all, if I thought the credentials of a Republican were better, and his policies better, than I would certainly vote for a republican.
Liberals SEEM (highlighted because that is the appropriate word) like extremists because of the machinations of the media and those who want you to think so.
We are not extreme. It is not extreme to expect that people get paid commensurately for the work that they do. It is not extreme to demand that corporations act with appropriate morals, and treat their workers whether here or abroad with the same respect, respect for human rights, and with appropriate pay. It is not extreme to demand that when war is resorted to, it is the last option, unavoidable, and all measures were taken to avoid it. It is not extreme to expect the government to make some means of helping those who fall on hard luck in our society. It is not extreme to expect that the elderly be given enough help that they don't have to choose between food or necessary life-sustaining prescriptions. It is not extreme to expect that the wealthy give proprortionally to the government and that taxes not be seen as a burden, but as a civic responsibility (and that it not be turned into a burden by expecting the poor and middle class to bear the brunt of it!).
Also, don't believe the minimum wage hype. All the minimum wage increase does is allow the minimum wage to begin to catch up with the inflation. After a short adjustment period, jobs are never lost, inflation doesn't really change (inflation always happens, minimum wage is just so many drops in a barrel). Those who scream and cry insist that money always acts geometrically and scientifically, and it doesn't. PS -- What need would there be to increase taxes, if those who had more gave more proportionally? Also, the MW increase has attached to it a tax break that will keep the small businesses from suffering. MW will not hurt the poor, it will give them more purchasing power.
First of all, we do think about issues individually. I'm sure that there are Dems who are pro-gun, or longer prison terms, I don't happen to be one, but never make the mistake of globalizing the particular.
I hate to say it, but I think my cat Adamina could run the country better than George Bush. He has made a mighty mess that will take decades to get rid of.
And no, we don't talk the same way as Bin Laden, and DONT compare us to him ever.

Whoa there, hoss. You got some emotional baggage you need to get rid of before you can think straight.
I'd recommend NOT THINKING about parties at all. I know you see the opposite, but the way you pose your question makes YOU look like the blind partisan minion.
Edwards is running for the Democratic nomination, he is pro death-penalty and pro-Second Amendment, among other things.
And where are the pro-cannabis or pro-stem cell Republicans you speak of?
I don't know of any, so there must not BE any!
That last sentence I wrote, right above this one, is a logical fallacy. In case you were wondering.

All liberals are not extremists. I really dont think that we follow our party as a religion. You guys are the one that ties religion in with your politics. I have voted republican, and I know that republican does not equal conservative. I am a liberal, and I am for stem cell research, raising the min wage, and freedom of speech. I prefer liberal candidates, but I am a financial conservative.
Which leads me to what happened when you guys controlled congress. We ended up in a war that is costing us 2 billion a week, we are in massive debt, china is killing us in the trade deficit while we let them keep their currency dirt cheap, and pirate our goods. Where are all of the conservatives rallying? I thought you guys were for small govt, and sound fiscal budgets. It is great to cut taxes, but when it is 100% debt financed , it is crazy!
Also you guys point out several extremists all the time as if they represent everyone. It is like me sayign that david duke, and the westboro baptist church represent all of you. I am smarter than that.

The worst way to find out what other people think and why is to begin by labeling them and making assumptions. If you really want to test your own views get off the soapbox and find out about each of the issues and the reasons why some other people differ from you.
Or you can stay on the soapbox and remain ignorant.

You've got it all wrong; I think you're overusing absolutes. If you can show me a republican in high places who practices what he preaches, I'll look at him or her twice. Until then, I'd venture to say that most reasonable people are decidedly non-Republican.
That said, the true ideals of the Republican Party have been hijacked by crazy Christians. Crazy Christians are enough to make almost anything else look better.

Because the ones who whine the loudest are the ones who get heard.
And you obviously don't talk to democrats very often, as there are many of them who ARE pro-gun, pro-war, anti-welfare, etc. You're mindlessly biased. Good game.

Maybe they only seem extreme to you because you are very conservative. Its all relative to what your own beliefs are. I'm moderate so no one seems very extreme to me.
