Don't feel stupid. If you have a question, ask them! If they start talking about something you don't understand, say what does that mean? They are older, and they probably did the exact same thing or they would not know what they do now! If you just started, you shouldn't expect to understand everything. That comes with experience and practice. Just do your best! That is why swimming is so great. You are competing against yourself. That is your biggest competitor! People will always be faster than you. Don't swim for them. Swim for you. There is nothing like touching that wall and looking up to see that you have beaten your own time. That is the only number that matters.
If you want to get faster, ask the other girls for help! Most people really like it when you acknowledge that they are good at something, and will be willing to share their tips. My breast stroke time was almost cut in half just by watching a girl who was older and better than me and mimiking what she did.

I have a similar problem. In the summer, I do dive team (I'm around 14-15).
You shouldn't feel awkward at all. A way you can become faster is to ask the older girls who may give you tips and help you understand swimming terms. I don't like swimming myself, I dislike distances. Ask your coach as well to help you if you are struggling.
You shouldn't quit, but try it out for a little, if it gets boring try a different sport but it is good to stick it out until the end.

Thats like saying Im not the CEO of a company so im gonna quit. Dont quit just because people are faster than you or better than you. if everyone did that nobody would be doing anything. Besides I started swimming 2 years ago and my 50 free time was like 40 sec. now after hard work and not quiting, I'm at a 25.7. my sophmore year. Dont quit stay with it , see how it goes, if it doesnt work out, then it doesnt work out, find something else thats fun and great for your health.

once you're swimming 18 hours each and every week i anticipate you're doing the surprising point at your club. If i became you i could see if i might desire to drop down a point and swim much less many times with a distinctive coach. i became on your boat final 365 days, and now i'm loving swimming greater advantageous than ever. i think of having relaxing interior the sport has allowed me to be greater efficient, moreso even than difficult artwork. i've got additionally found out that swimming is a sport which you may not do with out group friends, in case you do no longer purely like the adult males on the group my advice could be to get the hell out. come back to it once you're in college, there is no longer something incorrect with that. beneficial you will arrive as a stroll-on and be somewhat out of shape, yet you're unlikely to lose something by ability of taking a hiatus from the sport. Even michael phelps desires a smash now and returned.

I say stay with it. You'll learn soon enough. Yahoo! Answers is a great resource to find out what the older girls are talking about. Or you could just ask them, I'm sure they would be happy to explain it to you, since you just started. From my personal experience, I can tell you that most swimmers are very nice people. Good luck!

It would be sad to see someone that love something so much quit! You will be as good or better than those you envy! Now get in that water and practice, practice, practice!
