Well real labor contractions tense up much of the body unlike braxton hicks which only tenses the uterus. Real labor contractions are MUCH more painful- braxton hicks usually aren't painful at all just a little discomfort. Labor contractions get closer together and are intensified by walking, showering, or other movement while braxton hicks contractions usually subside when changing positions. Real labor contractions feel as though you have the worst gas pain ever paired with extremely tense muscles!

Braxton hicks,Don't really hurt all that much.

but Labor can be tricky sometimes,My sister had what she thought were braxton hicks,They were not hurting her,But she was having them Often. *Braxton hicks,is a tightening of the uterus* She went into the doctors office and she Was in full blown labor with no pain!!

Just remember Braxton hicks can STILL be labor,If you are having Alot of them Close together,Or REGULAR they might be labor contractions.

Regular contractions Well,They feel like a menstral cramp times 1 million It seems at the time :)

Good luck!

I had Braxton hicks the last several weeks of my pregnancy. My labor was induced and I had many contractions before my water was broken. They were slightly uncomfortable, but more like muscle spasms and tightening rather than painful. Once my water was broken, however, all heck broke loose! I was literally crawling out of my skin trying to get away from them. It was literally the worst pain I ever felt. Fortunately, I was able to breathe through them until I got my epidural. A word of warning for your partner...they have to put in extra fluids right before the epidural, so she needs to tell someone about 30 minutes before she needs the drugs that she wants them to give the fluid time.
Some people feel contractions in certain areas. Mine were all over my belly. Others feel them in their back. I guess every labor is different.
Once I had my epidural, it was smooth sailing til delivery!

there is no mistaking a contraction. A braxon hicks will feel like a tightening of the uterus. But it won't be painful. And they will stop if the woman changes what she is doing at the moment.

A real contraction is a tightening and squeezing of the belly. They will be at regular intervals, and as time goes by they will be more intense and closer together.

My mom had what she called "back labor". Her back was the only thing that hurt when she went into labor. When it was my turn...be prepared for TMI....it felt like I was really constipated. By the time we reached the hospital my contractions were 2 minutes apart.

Short story version..every woman's labor is different.

Sounds like back labor; very common. My mother had only back labor and I had only front labor. If she is having lower back pain that comes and goes she needs to be timing it as contractions.
