Charter schools are:
publicly funded, and are not vouchers for private schools.
open to all students.
committed to improving public education.
operated by non-profit groups.
playing an important part in school reform.
demonstrating a record of student achievement.
Per the gov's info site. Most states allow charter schools and, as an alternative to public school, they are FANTASTIC! They are the medium between public & private schools & provide more 1 on 1 attention to your child. You do want to keep an eye on each individual school-- I don't know where you're located, but you should definitely use links from the source below to check and get more info-- they are not 100% regulated by the state gov (private and/or public non-profit groups run them for the most part). You can also email people in your state for specifics-- they can tell you what the cost would be for your child, your situation, your state. I'm looking into the same thing for my daughter and I've been checking up on all kinds of schools-- so far, charter schools have been the best bet for both of us!
