I agree with you but they are teenagers who will do what there friends are doing regardless of what there parents think. I think that tattoos should be put in place that when you are dressing to hang out in the night it can be reveal. But a lot of teenagers are not think about the future of what will happen when they have to enter the work force . They are looking only as what is cool right now. Then looking from a kids point of view they are a lot like us at this age, we probably did this or wanted to do the same thing. We are looking at this from an adult prospective and we know better that to do something like this. Because we have learn from the error of our ways.

I'm 16 and I don't think you're being too strict at all (: I have two piercings in both ears, a bellybutton piercing and a tongue piercing. I don't have any tattoos (yet hahha). The only thing I disagree with is about talking to people age 65 and over with tattoos. Maybe you could just find some pictures on google of tattoos after some time. But as a parent it seems you've got it all done! Hope this helps (:

Tattoos and piercings do not always hinder an individual from getting hired, it all depends on company policy. (I could list for you some multi-million dollar corporations that openly allow tattoos and piercings. To name a few, Ford Motor Company and Marathon Petroleum Company LLC.) You are being stereotypical by assuming that ALL employers frown upon body modification. Do some research. Your workplace and it's policies do not speak for all other workplaces. Also, piercings can be removed, so all of those teens with "tons of piercings" need not worry because once they remove their jewlery, the holes close
I can think of a lot worse things that portray bad images in society. A better question to ask is: "Why don't parents talk to their kids about alcohol and drug use?" Piercings and tattoos never became so addictive they destroyed a person's life. You don't hear of piercing/tattoo anonymous, do you? No. Where's your concern for the alcohol/drug addicted teens?

Well if you are under 18 you have to have your parents sign a consent form for them to get a tattoo or a piercing well they do where i live. Tattoos don't mean that they will not be able to get a job later on.
I know a police officer that has his forearms covered in tattoos and on his fingers. I got a tattoo when i was 19 but i had it put on my back.
There is nothing wrong with getting a tattoo. Tell me this: Why do parents pierce their daughters ears at like 2 months old?

Honey I raised my nephew for many years and he is now 16 with are you ready 12 tattoo's! I do not approve of them, they are all homemade ones that he and his friend did. And they are all hidden except for the ones on his calf, forearm and knuckles.I had no idea he had them until I saw him with his shirt off. I told him how it could affect him in the future but like most teenagers guess what. He does not care! He has a job now making 15 dollars an hour as a chef in a local restaurant {and no its not fast food} and he's fine doing that job. I offered to pay to have them removed, he didn't want that. And I offered to help him get them covered with professional tats when he is 18 again he doesn't want that. I think maybe he feels its freedom of expression, I just wish he'd express himself in another way! He has ear pierced and tongue pierced {thanks to his biological mother thinking it would be cool to be his "friend" and taking him to get it done when he was 14 without me knowing} but again you cant tell on him. So yes we talk to them, and tell them I am a clinical psychologist my husband owns his own very successful business but we can not be with him 24-7.

I never believed in tattoos... of course, I have a phobia of needles... but I definately know friends who got tattoos of the stupidest things in the worst places. They ruined all of their future careers. And just to tell you, most of them did it AGAINST their parents (ie, turned 18, snuck out and got it done). They were idiots in every sense.
I, on the other hand, am an idiot in my own right. I believed that getting piercings would simply leave a small scar. I have 4 holes in my ears that won't close (besides the single earring holes) and are constantly getting odd infections (2 years after I took out the jewellery). I have a belly button that has a big brown scar in it which hurts once in awhile because it closed up with bacteria in it. I also got a labret for 4 weeks which began to ruin my gums.
Teens are stupid. It is really that simple. They think it looks cool and hate their mothers advice for some reason.... I, for one, wish I had listened. The only good thing I can say is I turned my sister off of piercings, although now she tells me that she is going to get "hope" tattooed ON HER WRIST. Talk about professional suicide. I just hope that when she turns 18 she changes her mind...

Yep,tats are in for the younger crowd... I have one, but it is well hidden(lower back, the cross that my grandma wore her whole life in case you are wondering).I am sure they did not consult their parents about the tat, and anything that their parents say probably falls on deaf ears. At least shows like Miami ink show people having elaborate and large tats in discreet places like lower back and shoulders and less of the more extreme tats on forearm, face, neck, etc.
Most responsible artists will have the person really think about the more exteme areas... but once a kid is 18, there is nothing the parents can do about it anyway!
p.s. once some of the upper management have a few, then it will be come more acceptable. But it is important to undertand that in some cultures tats are reserved for those in gangs or other "unsavory activities" . I told my own son that and he agrees that a hidden tat would be best. Hopefully it will stick in his brain! lol!

Piercings, are easily taken off. I had an eyebrow ring, labret ring and I have now a nose ring, and all of them came off without even a scar. I understand what you mean about it looking bad in jobs.Even at Burgerking, we can't have any piercings, that how my first nose piercing closed up. But hey, we're young and we make mistakes, and sometimes we don't think..but we have to suffer the consequences later on, so its all on us.

and people in todays society need to realise that just because someone has piercings and or tattoos that doesnt hinder their ability to do a job...so what they are becoming increasingly popular and most people will probably have them in the future, so businesses will have to deal with it! i dont think you should judge people because they have piercings/tattoos

thats not true.. not all teens are gettign tattoos. it IS a way of self expression. i have 9 piercings and love all of them (im 19) who cares about "corporate world" not every one is going to want to have a job sitting in a crappy cubicle 24/7 how boring! yes most jobs dont like tattoos to be shown.. but noit every teeneager have tattooed sleeves on them.. and they are most liekly over 18 cause noone would tattoo anyone under 18 even IF their parents were there to sign for them. so these are adults who can make decisions for themselves. everytime i got to get a piercing my mom hates it but i dont mind her. and yes my job doesnt like the piercings at all so i do have to take them out sometimes. but its not that big of a deal! plus when you take out a piercing the hole usually will always close over time (it may take a few years depending how logn you have had it though) and yes! it could leave a slar the size of the point of a pen! but who care! piercigns and tattoos are a way of self expression. and not every job "has the same company policy" out there.... yeah i do think abotu piercings when i get a job.
but you are being ignorant.. they can be teens but they are 18 or older and can make decisons for themselves. and dont need to rely on mommy and daddy anymore.. they can listen tot he advice that the parents give them but if they are really set on doing it they will go out and do it! and liek i said! most places wont even touch a person under 18 years of age even if the parents are there to sign for them so your facts are somewhat wrong... and piercings. for your ears to be pierced you need to be 16 and for any other piercings (facial, genitals, navel, nipples or surface piercings) ou need to be 18 years old. or possibly they may do it if you are 16 with your parents being there with you
adults are always gettign tattoos and piercings as well... its not ust teenagers.... and someone with tattoos or piercings doesnt mean their bad... and can never find a job....
I will also only get piercings or tattoos when I FEEL LIKE IT not if "everyone has them, so i need to be cool liek that" i think people who get piercings or tattos for that reason are lame... i do it cause i want it and i liek it and i really could care less what people think about them...
