Yes sometimes it is comforting to know your plight is evident even to a stranger and so compelling that they are forced to try to offer sympathy

Yes, of course you can. I have. Many times, in many places, and in many situations. You would be amazed at how refreshing a stranger's perspective can be sometimes. Sometimes you get lucky and meet the perfect stranger too. I have.

I think so. I was down and out a few years ago during a road trip. I stopped at a diner for a bite to eat and sat at the counter next to a nice lady who was ordering dinner for herself and her husband who was housebound. It was a nice local place and we struck up a conversation. She bummed me a smoke as we talked and encouraged me to keep my chin up. What a nice lady. Anyway, I went to the ladies room and when I came back, she was gone, but she had left her pack of cigarettes by my plate. For those of you who smoke (or used to smoke) I think you can understand what a big comfort that is. I never forgot that kind lady and hope she and her husband are doing well.

Most, any time I have had to go to the E.R. or the Clinic, I have found comfort in strangers.

I have gotten a lot of good advice from strangers and people who are not my family, they are more unbiased.

Strangers can be very refreshing especially if you know you won't ever see them again!
