By the log property

log[base b](a^c) = c * log[base b](a)

log 1000 {which is base 10} is the same as

log(10^3)

And, by the log property, this is equal to

3 log 10

Note that log 10 = 1, because 10 to the power of 1 is equal to 10, so we have

3(1) = 3

3*log(10), in which case the log(10) will drop out as it equals 1, so the answer is 3.
