Michael Jordan is the best ever. There isn't anyone in the league today that comes close to Michael Jordan at his prime..... And these are my reasons you can't compare Kobe to MJ.
2006 playoffs game 7, Suns v.s. Lakers, Kobe only scores 1 point in the second half. A game that big, MJ would of put up higher numbers(in any game MJ never scored only 1 point in a half), Kobe have games he scores 15, 16,17 points, MJ at his prime lowest would be 20 something(and that's a bad game for MJ), MJ has countless scoring titles & Kobe has 1, MJ as Batman has 6 championships & Kobe has 3 as Robin(MJ led & Kobe didn't), MJ has 6 finals mvps & Kobe has 0, MJ has 5 regular season mvps & Kobe has 0, MJ led his team to have the best regular season record in history & Kobe was led by Shaq to have the best playoff record in history(MJ led & Kobe didn't) MJ has the highest points scored in PLAYOFFS HISTORY(63 points) Kobe has a 81 point REGULAR SEASON game(against sorry defenders), and I can go on forever.

Michael Jordan really got the cult of the superstar rolling in the NBA. He ahd endorsements, his image was everywhere, he became the face of the NBA. Ever since he retired, everyone has been looking for the next MJ, and Kobe was probably the first they tried to put into that mold. They have similar styles of play, but there are other players that have similar games to MJ.

But, it really isn't about performance, it's about marketing, it's about image. It's about wanting to make people fixate on one guy at the expense of the rest of the game. They will always be looking for the next MJ, it really isn't about Kobe. They're trying to do it to LeBron, they'll probably try to do it to Arenas.

I'm sick of players being compared to MJ. MJ really does stand alone in all these comparisons, no matter how great the player is they try to make the next him. I wish people would just get over MJ already. It doesn't help the league or the players to keep trying to bring him back some way or another.

I agree with you there. Kobe (in terms of ability and attitude) should be compared to Gary Payton (in his prime with the Seattle Supersonics).

Because comparing basketball in the 60s to basketball in the 90s is analogous to comparing apples and oranges, it is futile to compare MJ to someone like Bill Russell or Wilt Chamberlain.

So Michael....Take your mantle!

The stars are rising, the challege of staying the all time best gets tougher.
Kobe and Kevin Garnett are the two single best players in the league. Then there comes Lebron and Dwayne. I don't think people are directly comparing with the two, but moreover comparing the best of this time to the best of that time. It's the thing to do, rate people on how good they are. It's natural and impossible to hold in.
