Elevate it above your heart. If you can tolerate ice, apply it to cut down on the swelling. If the blood blister, not clot, is in the nail bed, you will need that opened up or the area will get larger and hurt worse. If the blood blister is on the finger, elevation will help with the swelling. If you think the bone is broken.........and on a finger it is most noticable due to the closeness of the bone to the skin.......it would be deformed........it needs to be looked at by a physician but it can wait until tomorrow. If the pain is intolerable, call your doctor and ask for his recommendations.
If you cut your finger, make sure your tetanus booster is up to date. (within the last 10 yrs) Otherwise you will need one.

Ice for 15-20 minutes and then keep it off for 20 minutes and then repeat this for a couple of cycles then repeat every 4-6 hours. When the swelling goes down and if you still have a lot of pain and cannot bend your finger it may be wise to go see your doc and have an x-ray done. You may also need to have the pressure relieved from under your fingernail.

Go to the doctor, in the mean time putting ice on it will help with the pain, just make sure to put a thin cloth or dishtowel over the ice or else you could damage tissue. It sounds like it may be broken.

Thieres not much that you can do for a broke finger (if it is broke)...i broke mine a couple mounths ago, the same way that you did yours (in a car door) and my doctor just told me to ice it and that the blod clott goes away in a couple weeks so dont worry about it...and as for the pain take 2 ibprophen every couple hours. . just read the bottle. . I hope you feel bettter! I feel for you!
Oh and if your finger is cut anywhere make shure you rinse it with some rubbing alcohol or something that will clean it, and a bandaid!

I would go to the er, if the blood clot gets to heart you could die! Seriously get it looked at by a pro, could be fractured, if the skin is broken you may need a tetinus shot. Good Luck, that hurts really bad, I've done it before. I went to the er and they fixed me right up!

better go see a doctor.then perhaps the doctor will give you some antibiotics for infection.. you could also dip your finger in an ice cold water.then do hot compress.and if the nail in your finger seems like it's going to come off, don't pull it or cut.just let come off on it's own.
