While driving my car the battery light came on. Then the radio powered off, the lights began to dim and the car died out. If I leave the car off for a while it will start up again but dies out after a few minutes. Not sure if this is a battery, alternator or something else. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

your alternator is bad. if it was the battery the battery would not regain charge.

After sitting a bit a battery can regain some charge and start the car.

What you are describing is a bad alternator.

.....the most comon problem is incredibly dirty battery posts, if cleaning them up doesn't work, you can have the battery checked to see if all the cells are OK, you should be able to get this done without removing the battery, have them "LOAD TEST" the battery, this is crucial. if still nothing works, you need to get your alternator checked out. Most parts stores will check them out for free, but you have to remove it from your car. Hope this helps.

Sounds like an alternator problem to me if it was your battery your car wouldn't start again. you alternator probably is now drawing current instead of producing it i would also suggest checking for loose connection also. if no loose connections take it to a mechanic to make sure they have machines for testing alternators just ask them to and they'll probably test it for you.

Probably the alternator. or maybe the voltage regulator.

it also could be the voltage regulator too.if it,s sticking then it won,t let the alternator charge the battery.
