When I was 18, concept cars were cool. Over the years I saw how few of them ever got to market, or even influenced what ended up in showrooms. Now I am 65 -- too old to be disappointed, old enough to be sad about the wasted legacy...or is it the legacy of waste?

Concept cars have and always will be cool. Note that "concept" means "idea." Testing the public's reaction to new styling thoughts before building them is a very good business decision. Every designer's ideas cannot always be converted into production vehicles. Final body design is a committee decision, one which must be economical to assemble, safe to drive and salable to the public. Auto manufacturers are in business to sell their product, not to create art. If one can do both, wonderful. Unfortunately, history often is not kind to radical styling ideas - it is a trial and error situation. Remember the Chrysler and DeSoto Airflow of the thirties. It was an engineering and innovation star, but a sales debacle. No doubt you have noticed that some concept cars, such as the Dodge Challenger, will end up in production, although probably somewhat more sedate.

I would say that we should concentrate on the accomplishments in both form and function. Unfortunately, it is one of those harsh realities that you have to kiss a lot of frogs before you find a prince.

Uff da. look guy im neither a mechanic nor any of the different issues you have indexed, (i'm getting a college degree in agriculture truly.)anyhow there's a great difference between a mechanic and an engineer. remember a mechanical engineer is probably designing one element which will go right into a motor vehicle, on a similar time as a mechanic needs to appreciate approximately all the a number of aspects in a motor vehicle. Im helpful that in case you asked a mechanical engineer that designed a clean alternator the thank you to replace a worn snatch disk he could have a demanding time with it. additionally, you alongside with many different human beings think of mechanics are knuckle dragging gearheads yet to artwork in an autoshop now days you're able to desire to have an somewhat sturdy coaching, vehicle mechanics could desire to be constanly getting to grasp concerning the recent technologies and aspects that the mechanical engineers are inventing. vehicles Are originaly outfitted from the collaboration of many diverse inventors, and suggestions are better upon over the years, one single mechanical engineer did no longer layout the finished motor vehicle.

I am 22, and I think it is ashame when people "trick out" a car with "spinners" or weird paint jobs. Also, I think that concept cars are just for auto designers to show off what they can do, and for people with too much money, like filthy rich celebs to get ideas on how to spend their money. It is a wasted my dad, who is 50, says these people have more money than sense. And I agree.
