This is a weird "why" question, it would be a lot easier if it asked "how", but I'll run with it...

1. All members of society are represented: You have "intellectuals" and "jocks" and "leaders" and "followers". For a quote, I believe somewhere in the book it mentions Ralph as a "natural" leader, probably at the beginning when they elect him as their leader.

2. The book, which was written following WWI (or II, I forget which, I think I though), implies an aerial attack at the beginning, and then follows the events of a war-torn country (factions, invasion, war, etc.) For a quote you could find where I think it's Ralph talks about how the plane was shot down or flaming around them, I think that's at the beginning as well.

3. The themes of the book apply to all of humanity: The theme of the book is degredation of humankind and the inherent evil of man; for a quote you could find where Simon is talking to the boar's head and it tells him something to the effect that the Monster lies in all of them.

Good luck! :)

Although Golding presents us with a wide range of "characters", there's no getting away from the fact that it is an all male community.
Where there is gender imbalance, there is invariably "trouble"!
Would things have turned out differently, if "Sarah" or "Rebecca " had survived the crash?
Was Golding reflecting on the male dominated society in the 50's?and the consequences thereof?
Sorry ,not strictly relevant to your question but hope it provokes thoughts.
good luck
