Usually the 2nd ring, so my caller ID picks it up. It doesn't always mean I pick up, if it's someone I don't care to talk to on the Caller ID, I won't pick up no matter how many rings!! LOL

You both want and are ready for different things. Compatibility is important. He wants luxuries like expensive new gadgets, you want a home and kids.. You have different goals in life. After waiting a year I would have re-visited his goals and your goals. If he had made no progress I would move on because you are wasting each others time. You don't have to buy a home immediately. Save money for a few years in order to have a decent down payment. Also I understand you being worried about having kids in your 30's or even later.. but medical advances have made pregnancy safer for older women -particularly if you take care of your health. I would typically wait no more than 5 years max. If after 5 years neither of you is sure about spending a life time together... You probably aren't a good match. Also, I wouldn't say yes to a proposal if we hadn't already discussed our views and expectations of marriage (including whether we wanted kids in the future.) I think you scared him with all that. Maybe sit down and have a reasonable conversation about his goals -kids, career, home... and how he hopes to meet those goals. If he still hasn't shown any consideration for these things then he simply is not ready and there is no telling when he will be -or if he ever will be. consider where your relationship is going. If you both want different things then you are wasting each others time. This doesn't have to end ugly, in fact it is the kindest thing to say -you deserve someone that wants what you want just as much as I do so we need to go our seperate ways and find that.

I just check the caller id it's a neat invention and depending on who the person is I decide to either:
a) pick it up right away
b) let the machine get it
c) take 3 rings to deliberate whether or not to answer

I have caller ID. If it's someone I know, I pick it up right away or as soon as I can get to the phone.
If it's someone I don't know, then I'll wait until 2 rings or possibly not answer it at all.

I look at the caller I.D. almost immediately; if I don't know the name, or there is no name, they can talk to my fax machine! If the fax isn't on, for some reason, one more ring gets the voice mail, and I can delete anyone I don't want to talk to. That thing is there for my convenience, not every telemarketer in the world!

Well, when telemarketers call we never answer it. I know that's mean but we just don't. But anyways I usually wait 3 or 4 rings, it depends.
