Whilst studying, no.
Whilst answering assignment questions, yes.
Classical or instrumental, no words, words in a song confuse me when I am trying to write words.

yes it does, I'll listen to anything, I'm not embarassed to listen to anyone, I'll listen to Franz Ferdinand, Modest Mouse, punjabi (Indian music), Nirvana, Justin Timberlake, The Who, The Yardbirds, The Zutons, Massive Attack, Thievery Corporation, The Postal Service, Air, La Caution (french rap), A.R. Rahman(folk like Bollywood music), Coldplay Soundtrack to Saw, Series of Unfortunate Events, Goldfrapp, Jet, Hendrix, Johnny Cash, The Beatles, Interpol, Nine Inch Nails, The Von Bondies, The White STripes, Cake, I can go on forever
I LOVE listening to music and 'discovering' more there are so many different moods and styles, and ahhhh, the feeling is like amazing, and when I listen to music and read or study, I do admit, I get distracted sometimes though, but if I gotta do a paper, music helps me a lot

Not me. I am a single focus person and can only concentrate on one thing at a time. It has taken me a long while to figure this out. Music would distract me from concentrating.
However, if I am doing, for example, housecleaning, then music helps tremendously to lighten up the load.

no, studies just say that if you listen to classical music (just music, no lyrics) while you sleep after studying it may help to fix it all in your brain and be able to remember it for a longer time. Anyway it is not a scientificallly approved theory.

why do you have to ask such a complicated question? According to Western Electric, changes in music at random times - including volume and bass - produce better performance in productivity. Read into that what you may.

Music actually makes me want to dance, so if I put music on, it distracts me.
