croutons are stale bread with seasoning. However they too can become stale and when croutons are stale they become mushy and no one wants a mushy crouton

The croutons are made from stale bread but they are then seasoned and toasted in oil that would go rancid if not sealed airtight.

It's because if the bread gets Permeated with air, there will be a fungal growth throughout the crouton bag.

Lex Luthor handed me a bag of those...or so I thought. I opened up a bag of Kryptonite whoop-azz without looking, and actually ate three chunks on my salad before I realized what I was doing. Man, did I give Lex a Super-beating for that!

the croutons I use are not stale..just crisped.

They aren't stale. They are bread that is toasted.

yes what first guy said. plus to keep out bugs and bacteria. and im sure little itty bitty pieces of cardboard from the box wouldnt be too appetizing

not stale bread...dried bread. There is a difference.

so that it doesn't get mushy. i imagine that croutons would get mushy when they get stale
