as long as it not expired they should have let u in but they may deny anyone for any reason but discrimination

yes they can turn you away
if they feel that license in question is invalid , it's their judgement call, and more importantly, their liquor license, by authortiy of the ATF, and the ATF loves to yank away license for bars serving to minors. So because you did not replace you underage license with a current one does not mean they have to allow that on your part.

ok, i remember this delema from when i turned 21, now, say your at like.... fridays, and your licence says 20, but your birthday adds up to 21, if you show the waitress, she is allowed to give you an alcoholic drink. HOWEVER, say your goin down to tiki bob's on 12'th street, and the bouncer is checking ID's, if it doesn't say 21, he can take the time to add up your birthday, or he can just deny you. Leagally, any establishment has the right to deny you service at any time, and for any or no reason at all. SO, you can get drinks, but alot of times, people just don't care.

No they can not turn you away, its a photo Id, and it has your birth date on it. i keep a couple of my old licenses for the same reason, they are still photo ID.

Considering the law suits you bet any bar can refuse you drinks if there is any question about your age.
