any chemical tests i can do on it myself to figure it out

Home blood tests are easy. You get a card and a sharp. You prick your finger and put blood over the test areas on the card. Get two for $18.50 at the link below.

However, if you ever go into hospital they will do the blood test again. They won't trust your life with your result!

Not usually on a birth certificate at least not always. You have to know your mom & dad's blood type and work out a punnent square (basic science) HOWEVER that will only give you probability. I do not know of any home test. You need to either donate blood (in which case they'll type and cross it and send you a card eventually AND you have the added bonus of possibly saving a life). OR your doctor orders a blood test.
