You start counting on the first day of your period. A normal cycle can be anywhere from 21 - 35 days long, depending on the person, and it will not necessarily be the same every time. For some women, they're so regular they can tell when their period will start based on the phase of the moon (also a 28 day cycle). For others, it might be 26 days this month, 28 the next, and 30 days the one after that. Start a journal and write down not only the day your period starts and ends, but how heavy it is on each day, the severity of cramps (if any), any PMS symptoms you have before the period (cramping, bloating, irritability, breast tenderness, headaches, forgetfulness, etc.). You may start to see a pattern, and that can help you predict a period if they aren't always exactly the same number of days apart. Also, this journal is good to take to the gynecologist with you.
However, even if you are absolutely certain that you know your cycle, and you won't have it while you're at camp, take tampons, pads and ibuprofen with you anyway. It's better to be safe than sorry. Menstrual cycles are notoriously unpredictable in teenagers, and stress can mess with your hormones. So can being around other women - it's very common for women who are in the same household to be on the same cycle. It doesn't usually happen in as short a time frame as summer camp, but it's still possible.

If you are on a 28 day cycle-I count 28 days from the first day my period starts-pretty accurate. If your period started today then your next period s/b Feb 22nd. If you are a 21 day cycle-count 21 instead of 28. Good luck.

Your cycle begins on the first day of your period. Women's periods aren't all the same length, so it makes no sense to otherwise, does it?
